Kyle Dawson
Kyle Dawson is a radio and television play-by-play broadcaster for the Washington Wild Things and the TribLIVE High School Sports Network (Pittsburgh, PA). In 2018, he completed his first full season of professional baseball play-by-play with the Wild Things, of the independent Frontier League, and has been broadcasting sports from the high-school level to college to pro baseball for seven years. Following the 2019 Frontier League season, Kyle was named the Robert Ford Award winner for the League's Broadcaster of the Year. At the conclusion of the 2021 season, Kyle was chosen as the Broadcaster of the Year in the Frontier League for the second-straight championship season for the league. His role with the Wild Things goes beyond the broadcast booth, as he serves as an Assistant General Manager (Baseball Ops) with the club in the MLB-partnered league.
As the Wild Things' lead play-by-play broadcaster since May 2018, Kyle calls Washington's 96-game Frontier League schedule, making him one of the youngest lead broadcasters in pro baseball. In his role with the TribLIVE High School Sports Network, Kyle calls play-by-play and color for Western Pennsylvania baseball, softball, football, soccer, volleyball and hockey. Additionally, he co-hosts some of the Network's other weekly shows, on a needed basis.
Previously, Kyle was heavily involved in Waynesburg University's Department of Communication, calling games for the Waynesburg University Sports Network, WU's sports remote project and WCYJ-FM, the campus radio station. Outside of broadcasting, he also served as a producer for the TV sports network, as well as in a variety of management roles in both of those entities, as well as WCTV, the campus TV station and The Yellow Jacket, the student newspaper at Waynesburg University. In his time with the Yellow Jacket, the newspaper was a two-time finalist for the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards for All-Around Non-Daily Newspaper (2014, 2016). His writing was honored with an award as well, as his piece "From Fringe to Spotlight," featuring one of the University's baseball players, won first place in the Keystone Press Awards in 2016 from the PA NewsMedia Association.
Kyle is a Pittsburgh native and a May 2017 graduate of Waynesburg University. Since starting his career in September of 2012 at Plum Senior High School and furthering that as a freshman at WU in the fall of 2013, he has called nearly 500 games across six sports and in seven states. Kyle's full resume is below, following his broadcast schedule.
